Khuli gets paid by the police and his case is thrown out

Last year Khuli Chana was all over the news – not for his banging music, but for getting shot by the po-po in an alleged case of mistaken identity.

Fast forward to almost one year later and the matter has finally been resolved. Outside of the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today the police officers who shot at the rapper hugged him and publicly apologised to the rapper. The matter was settled out of court according to lawyers. Which only means one thing. Khuli Chana got paid! khuli2

Although the amount was not disclosed, Chana’s lawyer Cliff Alexander told reporters: “Sanity has prevailed. We asked for a public apology and a settlement in October 2013… we had not incurred any expenses then,” Chana’s lawyer Cliff Alexander told reporters.

The policemen in question, Mduduzi Mfundisi Nzuza and Sam Baloyi faced charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, failure to take reasonable precautions to avoid danger, and negligent use of a firearm. With relief on his face, Nzuza told reporters:
“We apologise to Khuli and are sorry he was injured in a case of mistaken identity.”

Looking at the police protests in certain parts of the United States recently, it’s safe to say that Khuli has not lost all faith in law enforcement, stating that not all policemen are bad – although he admitted to having nightmares over the last year. “I am happy I got my apology and commend everyone that made this possible…this was a huge interruption in my life and it gave me nightmares… I think I can start having fun again, make hit songs and raise my daughter.”
