Chris Matthews Brings His Game to South Africa For The First Time at Red Bull Half Court

South Africa’s basketball community is set for an unforgettable experience as basketball’s most sought-after shooting coach and Red Bull athlete Chris Matthews, better known as Lethal Shooter, visits South Africa for the first time ahead of the Red Bull Half Court National Finals, taking place on the 22nd of August at Klipspruit Sports Centre in Soweto.

Recognised as one of the world’s most influential basketball trainers, Chris Matthews has built a global reputation for transforming some of the biggest names in the game through his creative shooting techniques and elite coaching methods. Now, for the first time, the South African basketball community and fans will have the opportunity to experience his expertise firsthand.

His visit forms part of Red Bull Half Court, the world’s fastest-growing 3-on-3 streetball tournament, where the country’s top men’s and women’s teams will battle it out for the national title and the opportunity to represent South Africa on the global stage.

Ahead of the National Final, Matthews will host an exclusive Lethal Shooter Masterclass at the University of the Witwatersrand on the 21st of August, where aspiring players and Red Bull Half Court finalists will sharpen their shooting skills under the guidance of one of basketball’s most creative minds.

“I’m excited to experience the energy of basketball in South Africa firsthand. Basketball is a universal language, but every country brings its own culture and style to the game. I’m looking forward to connecting with the players, sharing some knowledge, and learning from the community here too,” says Matthews.

Matthews will then join the Red Bull Half Court National Final on the 22nd of August, where he will meet fans, engage with athletes and bring his world-renowned expertise to one of South Africa’s biggest celebrations of streetball.

“My message is simple: fall in love with the work. The best players I’ve worked with never stop learning, never stop putting in the reps and always believe in themselves. Stay consistent, embrace the journey, keep shooting and stay locked in.”

Chris Matthews’ visit marks a significant milestone for South African basketball, providing local players and fans with a rare opportunity to connect with one of the sport’s most influential figures while celebrating the continued growth of the game in the country.
