Christer, the producer behind Samthing Soweto’s gold-certified single ‘Amagents’, breaks down the song’s production
Christer produced one of the hottest songs in South Africa at the moment, ‘Amagents’ by Samthing Soweto, which has already been certified gold. The procurer recently shared a breakdown of the song’s production, specifically the beat. “We started working on the song in April 2021,” Christer says, “It’s quite an old song. It took a while for it to finally see the masses.”
In the video, Christer takes fans through each element of the beat from the very first one he used to having Alie Keyz replay the keys. What the video makes clear is how the beat takes elements from amapiano, Afrobeats, hip-hop, maskandi and even gospel, which you may have already picked up because you’ve listened to the song many times already (we can’t be the only ones 👀).
Christer is a seasoned music producer who has worked with the likes of Amanda Black, Emtee, Una Rams, Sjava, A-Reece, Lucasraps and, most recently, Blxckie who he worked with largely on his breakout album B4now.
