Samthing Soweto warns his daughter against men in new single ‘Amagents’.
In his first song in close to two years, Samthing Soweto lets us in on a conversation with his daughter where she’s warning her that men are pretty much all the same, so she needs to tread carefully when the time comes. “Vula amehlo, mntwanami, ungadlali abafana,” he concludes the first verse before transitioning to the chorus.
In the second verse, he gets more specific as he touches on how unsafe women are in South Africa, a country with one of the highest GBV statistics in the world.

Samthing Soweto has been on a hiatus for close to two years and has hinted to have been dealing with real life in that period. The last time we heard from the talented musician, he was singing over amapiano beats. In 2019, he revolutionised the genre when he came up with a way to marry soulful vocals with piano production on his album Isiphithiphithi and, later, on the EP Danko!.
His latest song, however, is rich Afro-soul that has no log drum whatsoever. Think of ‘Omama Bomthandazo’.
