Heineken helps bring Premier Padel to life as Pretoria delivers a world-class tournament

South Africa just hosted its first-ever Premier Padel tournament and proved something simple: get world-class sport and a proper fan experience in the same place, and people show up.

For the first time, South African fans were able to watch many of the world’s leading padel players compete on home soil. While the on-court action delivered plenty of excitement, the atmosphere throughout the Pretoria Premier P1 also highlighted just how quickly the sport has grown in popularity across the country.

If there was one clear takeaway from the tournament, it was that South Africans have a growing appetite for major international sporting events.

Thousands of fans made their way to SunBet Arena, Time Square throughout the tournament to watch some of the sport’s top-ranked players go head-to-head. Away from the court, there was just as much happening, with entertainment and fan activations helping to create an atmosphere that kept the energy going between matches.  At the heart of that experience was the Heineken Silver Courtside Club, which quickly became one of the busiest spaces at the venue. The activation gave fans somewhere to catch up, relax and stay connected to the tournament between matches, reflecting Heineken’s long-standing commitment to bringing people together through shared experiences.

Whether spectators were following every rally from the stands or taking a break between matches, the Courtside Club became a natural meeting point throughout the week.

“Premier Padel gave South African fans the opportunity to experience one of the world’s fastest-growing sports at the highest level, and we were proud to help make that experience even more memorable,” says Warrick Wyngaard, Marketing Communication Manager at Heineken.  “For us, great sporting moments aren’t only about what happens on the court. They’re about bringing people together and creating opportunities for fans to connect through the sports they love. The energy and enthusiasm we saw throughout the tournament reinforced why these kinds of experiences matter.”

The tournament’s success also reflects how far padel has come in South Africa. Once considered a niche sport, it has rapidly grown into one of the country’s fastest-growing sporting communities, attracting players of all ages and fostering a social culture that extends well beyond the court.

For Heineken, Premier Padel was a natural fit. As the sport continues to grow locally, the tournament gave the brand another chance to bring people together around an experience they genuinely wanted to be part of.

By the time the final point was played and Alejandro Galán and Fede Chingotto (men’s), Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea (women’s) were crowned, Pretoria had demonstrated that it is more than capable of hosting world-class padel. For fans, it was an opportunity to experience some of the sport’s biggest stars up close.

Beyond the action on court, the tournament celebrated the shared passion that brings fans together and showcased the power of sport to create memorable experiences.
