New SA Sci-Fi Short Rupture by Abongwe L. Booi

South African writer, director, and producer Abongwe L. Booi has completed his latest short film, Rupture, an action-driven sci-fi thriller that explores the collision between the supernatural and the natural world.

Set in an abandoned warehouse on the edge of a city, the film follows three special operators tasked with retrieving a mysterious package. This mission quickly unravels into terror as they confront forces beyond their understanding. Inspired by the SCP universe, particularly SCP-069, Rupture transforms an ordinary object into a source of escalating dread.

Shot in a single day, the film stars Boris Petranko, alongside newcomers Robert Sam-Kputu and Daniel Koeslag, with Charles Kes narrating. Blending supernatural horror, magical realism, and speculative futures, Rupture is firmly rooted in a South African context and marks a bold step toward Booi’s forthcoming debut feature film.
