Converse is penning a powerful new love letter to self-expression, individuality, and cultural impact through its latest global campaign: Love Chuck. Fronted by global icons like Tyler, the Creator, Vince Staples, and Charli XCX, the campaign celebrates the legendary Chuck Taylor — the sneaker that started it all and continues to shape music, fashion, and artistic movements across generations.
In Mzansi, Love Chuck finds its local heartbeat in the form of Usimamane — a genre-defying artist, fearless creative, and resonant voice for South African youth. Known for challenging convention and championing authenticity, Usimamane is the embodiment of the Chuck spirit: bold, unfiltered, and unapologetically original.
On Thursday, 10 July, Converse officially welcomed Usimamane into the Love Chuck family with a vibrant celebration held at YFM studios. The event, hosted by YFM DJ Sinaye, brought together a dynamic crowd including Tony Dayimane, Qwellers, and Blaq Diamond, to mark not only Usimamane’s new partnership with Converse but also his recent accolades — a Metro FM Award for Best Male Artist and a platinum plaque for his latest album. The evening featured an exclusive live performance by Usimamane and fire sets from YFM DJs, turning the space into a full-on celebration of creative freedom and cultural relevance.
“Love Chuck is about paying homage to those who have not just walked in our sneakers, but to the places and movements that have supported us and left an indelible mark on society,” says Tebogo Motlhamme, Marketing Manager at Converse South Africa. “Usimamane is the perfect local catalyst — his energy, creativity, and fearless individuality make him a true reflection of what the Chuck Taylor represents today.”
More than a sneaker, the Chuck Taylor remains a timeless symbol — a cultural imprint that has stood the test of time from underground dance floors to global fashion runways. It represents the rebels, the creators, and the leaders who shape culture rather than follow it. Through Love Chuck, Converse salutes that legacy and the individuals who keep it alive.
For Usimamane, the campaign is a deeply personal milestone:
“It feels surreal to collaborate with such an iconic brand as Converse. It’s been part of our story growing up in South Africa — from pantsula culture to fashion in the townships. The All Star skew is a symbol. This partnership reflects everything I believe in as an artist. It’s a no-brainer. I’m honored. Thank you, Converse.”
The Love Chuck campaign will unfold through bold visuals, creative collaborations, and local activations that invite fans to wear their hearts on their soles — and continue the journey with a sneaker that’s more than just a shoe: it’s a movement.
