TheLastLetter Returns With a New Single Featuring Indigo Stella

TheLastLetter is no stranger to the HYPE family or the music space. The last time we caught up with her sound was through the release of “Stay,” but now the artist is stepping back into the spotlight with a brand-new single that explores love, intoxication and the complicated behaviour that comes with both.

“Jaded” is inspired by the experience of dealing with a lover whose personality changes when they are under the influence. TheLastLetter, also known as Z, explores the frustration of recognising someone’s behaviour when they are constantly drunk or high, while also understanding that beneath those moments may lie a person who is deeply unhappy.

Indigo Stella adds another perspective to the record, delivering her verse in her signature melodic rap style that flows effortlessly over the production. Together, the two artists unpack a relationship shaped by emotional highs, lows and the unpredictable switches that come with intoxication.  The track brings together a strong collection of creative talent. Production comes courtesy of Wichi1080, while Indigo Stella joins TheLastLetter on the record, creating a collaboration that balances vulnerability, melody and rap.

Interestingly, “Jaded” also feels like a continuation of TheLastLetter’s earlier work. It follows the emotional themes explored on her 2018 single “The Void,” where she compared love to alcohol and pleaded with her lover to drink from her metaphorical cup instead. This recurring imagery raises an interesting question: why does alcohol continue to appear in her storytelling?

Perhaps the answer lies in the idea that love itself can be intoxicating. In this case, Z seems to explore the desire to be the source of fulfilment for her lover — questioning why they constantly need another escape when her love should, metaphorically, be enough.  According to TheLastLetter, the song came together organically during a music camp she decided to host at La Fabrica HQ, bringing together a group of creatives including Indigo Stella, Wichi1080, Tobi from 59th, Prince Luwi, LD Beats, The FrlknFndlrs, Juni Kobe and others.  For three days, the space became a hub of collaboration, experimentation and music-making.

“I was in a room with Wichi, eX the Artist, Indigo Stella and Rashè. Wichi laced the beat, and together we created this beautiful record.”

The inspiration behind the song, however, came from a much more personal experience.  TheLastLetter explains that she was inspired by someone she previously dated — a person she initially met while he was drunk and behaving badly. As the night went on and he sobered up, however, she saw a completely different side of him.

“Throughout the night, as he sobered up, he became the sweetest person ever.”

As their relationship developed, she began noticing the difference between his sober and intoxicated behaviour — particularly in the way he called and communicated with her.

That emotional switch ultimately became the foundation for “Jaded.” The result is a record that doesn’t simply speak about drinking or getting high, but rather explores what those habits can reveal about a person, a relationship and the emotional unhappiness that sometimes sits beneath the surface.  With Wichi1080’s production, TheLastLetter’s intimate storytelling and Indigo Stella’s melodic rap contribution, “Jaded” arrives as a layered reflection on love, escapism and the versions of ourselves that come out when the lights — and inhibitions — go down.
