Catching up with Lolly Thee Illest

Get to know Lolly Thee illest. One of the illest MCs out there.

It’s always great to introduce yourself to our readers, tell Hype Magazine audience bit more about yourself?

Hello world I go by the name of Lolly also known as Theeillest, Black Mary, The real Don dada. I am a Rap Artist, Creative director, and entrepreneur located in Johannesburg, South Africa. I fell in love with the art of painting pictures with words at age 11 through poetry and Rap music drawing inspiration from artists such as Prokid, HHP & Capital steez (just to name a very few off the top). I learned to master the art of creative diversity in my music, so I don’t become confined by one genre because the goal has always been to pioneer my own with Rap as the root.

We got introduced to your twitter freestyles, mixtapes you were featured on and so forth. Please describe your journey so far.

I got introduced to cyphers and freestyles in high school and started experimenting by posting my own on Twitter with no anticipation of how much traction it would gain. The amazing feedback I received from strangers, established artists, and even my own peers helped me bottle up enough hype to start recording and branding myself. My confidence was always my superpower.

The journey has been tough but extremely rewarding. God has continued to carry me and the limits of Life Are limitless the further that I climb.

Last year you dropped a project titled ROSE MARY 2 which you featured Maraza, Tasha HendrixX, Stilo Magolide, Flash iKumkani and Tiffany. How did the album perform and how have your fans receive it?

The Black Mary 2 Mixtape is my most streamed project thus far it and it has received tons of love from fans and industry giants alike. Grootman Sjava literally called it an album and I haven’t even scratched the surface. The Official music video for the lead single “Moyeng” ft Stilo Magolide is available on YouTube including a visualizer for a song I did with Maraza titled “From the Top”. Go check it out!

Are we going to get any music videos from the album? We expected to see some visuals considering how dope the project is

I am dropping my first single of the year in April and I’m working on a Hip Hop Project.

Is there any new music you currently working on? If so, when can we expect it as hip-hop fans?

Look out for FIRE visuals and collaborations.

FUN FACTS:
