#BEAUTYOFBLEND WITH CA$H CARLO

One thing you can’t deny is amount of young creatives that exist within our country which continues to lead new #BeautyOfBlend spotlights that have us looking into SA’s diverse cultures and how they all impact on and evolve each other in collaboration with Tullamore D.E.W. Photographer, videographer and simply “just an artist”, CA$H CARLO is the individual we’re looking into right now. It might sound weird but when I listen to music I go on a trip.

Talk to us about how you started doing what you do.

So when I was younger I used to make little corny videos [laughs] and I used to shoot on like an iPhone 4s and I used to edit on some cracked app. When I was younger, my friend and his family allowed me to come to his house to actually use an editing software on a big pc and let’s just say it was cracked…. We used Vegas and that’s actually the first real software I used… And ever since then I used t get a new iPhone and I used it to shoot because the cameras were good enough, still are, the 6s was state of the art at that time… And then I just fell in love with it because I saw I could do something with it and carry on making art which is the main thing I always want to do.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

I’m not inspired by anybody. I used to when I was younger but I’m actually inspired by music… It might sound weird but when I listen to music I go on a trip. They are so many songs that I can tell you about that I have music video (ideas) in my head for… When I listen to them I immediately imagine like a music video. But its mainly music not people actually.

There are so many good artists and filmmakers that don’t have the numbers but have the mind

What is your ultimate goal with the industry?

To just make myself happy and make art that I enjoy. Not to impress everybody. To probably also just be a trailblazer and make a way for other kids to feel comfortable to do things that they like and not really try to conform to other people’s artworks.

What is your belief in the benefits of blending cultures and perspectives?

Showing people diversity to a certain extent… Showing people something that they haven’t seen before. We would have a lot more good stuff and not the same things that we see so much in this country. We would see so much different things because a lot of people have an air to themselves and nobody wants to collaborate. A lot of people would make really good artworks, music, films… There are so many good artists and filmmakers that don’t have the numbers but have the mind you know?

What are some unorthodox or weird methods you’ve had to bring together in your craft?

There are so many… The whole process is weird. I cant sit down and ever think about something, it just has to come randomly. Like I said, with music for example, the other day I was listening to one song and I imagined a performance artwork with just red suits but screens around… It was mad weird but it just happens. This is also kind of weird, so in the beginning of the year (2021) I was too comfortable, so what I did was not sleep in my bed the whole year because “uncomfortability” pushes revolution. You’re going to keep on moving forward if you are uncomfortable. So I stopped sleeping my bed and I’ve been sleeping on the coach the whole year just so that I’m not comfortable.
