HYPE was all over Durban this weekend, thanks to AMSTEL’s awesome hospitality, where the hip hop was the dominating genre across the entire ceremony at this year’s 14th annual Metro FM Music Awards. And of all the rap heavyweights who were nominated, it was Cassper who walked away as king of the year. Nyovest walked away with 5 awards, including: Best Hip Hop Album, Best Hit Single, Song of the Year, Best male album and the coveted Listener’s Choice award.
Other winners included AKA, who managed to snacth Best Collaboration for ‘All Eyes on Me’ and Duncan won Best Remix for ‘Tsiki Tsiki’ Aka, Professor and Mampitsha. Dimplez and K.O, who received nominations in various categories unfortunately did not get any wins.
A winning night for hip hop in general, it was punctuated with a monumental closing performance by Cassper and his crew of dancers.
The standard for what hip hop is capable of on a national level just got bumped up by a trillion this year, and Cassper’s achievements are testament to that.
