Kwesta takes Best Rap at MMAs!

Durban was completely taken over this weekend by the 13th annual Metro FM Music Awards, as a star studded cast of celebs, artists, socialites, media and fans gathered to celebrate music, accolades and not forgetting Tata who was honoured by an opening performance by Zahara and Winnie Khumalo. Celebrating 20 years of democracy as the underlining theme, the MMA’s were off the chain.

Uhuru were the night’s biggest winners taking Song of The Year for ‘Y tjukutja’ as well as three awards for Mafikizolo’s Reunited which the group produced. But ultimately it was Mafikozolo who made an epic comeback much to the crowd’s delight, taking home three awards.

And in the anticipated rap category it was Kwesta who was victorious over L-TIDO and iFani, while Khuli Chana took Best single and Best Music Video for Mnatebawen, beating the likes of AKA and DA L.E.S for their singles ‘Kontrol’ and ‘Heaven’.

So after all the hype around his open letter to 5FM for not getting playlisted, we’re glad homie scooped this in the bag – otherwise we would probably be publishing an open letter by Kwesta to Metro perhaps. Aight, maybe that’s harsh, but it’s evident that Kwesta’s fans and listeners are not listening to 5. Big up to him and Khuli for their wins.

And now it’s all eyes on the SAMAs. Will Kwesta get the nod? Next week Thursday all SAMA nominees will be announced. Let’s watch this space…
