On 30 September 1995, Mariah Carey made history when she started an 8 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Fantasy’, becoming the first female act to enter the chart in pole position.
Making her debut over two decades ago, the legacy she’s left in pop is undeniable, and to hip hop she’s no stranger. The list of rap collaborations she has to her discography is enormous. In 2012 she teamed up with Rick Ross and Meek Mill for her single ‘Triumphant’. In August this year it was announced that she’d work with MMG label signee, Wale alongside her long time producer Jermaine Dupri. The rapper tweeted in no uncertain terms: “Mariah x Wale x JD = coming soon”.
From Nicki Minaj to Da Brat, ODB and Jigga, she’s put in work with everyone, mastering the art of blending her soulful voice with the finest lyrical wordsmiths. In honour of her success we hit you up with another HYPE list of our favourite Mariah hip hop collaborations…
