When the man with the golden mic not only mentions you but praises your latest project on a public platform, it’s not the worst thing in the world. For those of you who follow Zubz on Twitter (Zubzlastletta), you probably would have seen his rants about this new project that he’s hooked on. This project would be #Frwednesday, a recently realased mixtape by a fraternal rap duo from the Vaal. Everyone, we’d like you to meet Fratpack.
For a few years, Kitso Moremi and Kabelo “Mr Calibre” Moremi were just making beats, kicking rhymes to themselves. Thanks to their music video for ‘Dream’ getting some TV time, 2011 was the year the group made their first big commercial stint.
Starting out with their 2008 mixtape The Far Out Mixtape, the group used this format to establish a solid foundation and define their sound. With very little airplay, the duo was able to gain quite a following with this release and two years later, they followed up with Not In The Mixtape , which included regional and community radio favourites like ‘Infinite Love’ and ‘Scribble Paper’.
“We use fuse hip hop, alternative rock and electronic sounds to make progressive and sonically appealing music with a message,” says Kitso, the producer/rapper and sound engineer of the group.
When not in the booth, Kitso is an award-winning sound engineer in the Advertising Industry while Mr Calibre juggles his time between completing a law degree through Wits University and presenting YO TV’s flagship hip hop programme, Battle Stations.
