The nominations announcement for the 2012, 18th Edition of the MTN SAMA awards took place last Friday morning at Turbine Hall,Newtown. Zahara is leading the pack with 7 nominations, followed closely by KZN rapper Zakwe, and house duet MiCasa with 5 nominations each. The category we were all itching to see was course Best Hip Hop Album, now obscurely called Best Street Urban Album. The nominees for that category are Jack Parow, AKA, Zakwe, L-Tido and HHP. Congratulations gentlemen. Zakwe also scooped up an impressive 5 other nominations in the categories Remix of the Year, Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and Record of the Year HYPE’s current cover boy, AKA also scored another nomination in the Male artist of the Year category; a little modest if you ask us, considering the the guy is the most playlisted, requested and booked rapper in the country. But moving along swiftly, who’s your pick for the “Street Urban Album”? Tido had the whole of Africa dancing. HHP produced what is arguably the best rap concept album of the year. Jack Parow’s album is impreccably produced and Zakwe is the man of the moment. Make sure to support our local cats throughout all the categories and vote.
