Mnqobi Yazo Embraces the Journey on New Album “Indlela”

South African artist, producer, songwriter and composer Mnqobi Yazo enters a new chapter with INDLELA, his forthcoming album set for release on 28 August 2026 through gamma. Meaning “the journey”, Indlela is a reflection of Yazo’s evolution not only as an artist, but as a person. The album explores the experiences that shape a life and the emotions that come with them, moving through love, heartbreak, ambition, struggle, growth, spirituality, relationships and the pursuit of a better life.

At the heart of the project is the idea that the journey itself is as important as the destination. Indlela captures different chapters of Yazo’s life, offering a more intimate look at the experiences, lessons and relationships that have influenced the person and artist he has become.

The album follows “Inhlanhla,” a single that introduced this new chapter through themes of gratitude and reflection. Looking back on the challenges he has faced, the sacrifices he has made and the unexpected doors that have opened, Yazo reflects on the role of faith, community and hard work in his journey.

“Inhlanhla came from a place of gratitude and reflection. I’ve reached a point in my life where I can look back at the challenges, the sacrifices and the doors that opened when I least expected them. I realised that some of the things we call ‘luck’ are also blessings that come from God, from the people around us and from the work we put in. The song is about recognising those blessings and appreciating the journey. It represents a new chapter for me, both personally and musically.”

Born and raised in Maphumulo, KwaZulu-Natal, Yazo’s musical identity is deeply rooted in Zulu culture, while drawing from Isicathamiya, Maskandi, Afro Jazz and contemporary African music.

His career includes Platinum-certified projects Iscephu, Impi and iStiff, alongside major collaborations with Big Zulu, Shwi Nomtekhala, Nathi and Zonke Dikana. His collaboration with Big Zulu on “Vuma Dlozi” achieved Multi-Platinum status, while “Zamalek” featuring Big Zulu also earned Platinum certification.

Yazo has continued to expand his presence beyond recorded music, building a strong reputation as a live performer through his Ubhoko Tour, which filled Johannesburg’s Gold Reef Lyric Theatre in 2025 before reaching The Playhouse Company in Durban in 2026.

With Indlela, Mnqobi Yazo is not simply releasing another album. He is documenting where he has been, where he stands today and the road still ahead.

‘INDLELA’ is out 28 August 2026 via gamma.
