YoungstaCPT is back with Worldwide Wynberg, his first full-length release of 2026—a deeply personal project that once again proves why he’s one of South Africa’s greatest storytellers.
More than just a mixtape, Worldwide Wynberg is a reflection of identity, heritage and home. The title, a phrase YoungstaCPT has proudly championed since 2014, embodies his philosophy of thinking globally while remaining rooted in the streets that raised him. This time, he turns that concept into a body of work that feels like both a celebration and a confrontation of his upbringing in Wynberg and Wittebome.
“My mixtapes always feel like a mini-series or a movie,” YoungstaCPT explains. “They contain personal stories and document parts of my life I don’t speak about often. This project is a love-hate letter to the place that raised me and explores some of my darker experiences growing up in Wynberg and Wittebome.”
While its heart belongs to Cape Town, the project stretches far beyond South African borders. The sonic direction comes courtesy of New York producer Cartune Beatz, who first discovered YoungstaCPT online while learning about South African hip-hop. Despite never meeting face-to-face, the two built a creative chemistry through conversations and file exchanges, crafting a sound that bridges Cape Town and New York. Youngsta compares the collaboration to his early days working remotely with Swiss producer Maloon—a reminder that great music knows no geographical boundaries.
That global energy extends to the guest list. Hip-hop pioneer Ready D blesses “Best Before” with his signature cuts, while Crosby Bolani channels reggae icon Junior Reid on “Wildberg.” Harlem lyricist NymLo joins Youngsta on “Chokers and Survivors,” and acclaimed actor and musician Omari Hardwick lends his voice to the spoken-word interlude “Brick Poem,” adding another international layer to the project’s storytelling.
Yet, for all its global collaborations, Worldwide Wynberg never loses sight of home.
One of the project’s most poignant moments arrives on “Can’t Save Everybody,” where YoungstaCPT tackles survivor’s remorse and the social realities facing Coloured communities. The record closes with an emotional skit featuring his grandfather and mentor, Shaakie Roberts, grounding the song in lived experience and family legacy. It’s the kind of introspective writing that recalls the honesty of his landmark debut, 3T.
On the opposite end of the emotional spectrum sits “When U Get Older,“ a heartfelt dedication to his son. Reflective and deeply personal, the record captures Youngsta not just as an artist, but as a father navigating life while leaving behind lessons for the next generation.
At its core, Worldwide Wynberg is a project about belonging. It’s about embracing where you come from—the beauty, the pain, the memories and the people who shape your identity. YoungstaCPT doesn’t romanticise his upbringing; instead, he embraces every chapter that made him the artist he is today.
