Nigerian rap heavyweight Erigga and Abuja lyricist Eeskay officially joined forces on their collaborative EP, North & South, a project that united two distinct regional sounds under one compelling body of work. Released through emerging Nigerian imprint Cleanblack Music, the EP served as a bold sonic bridge between the raw street narratives of the South-South and the vibrant energy of Northern Nigerian hip-hop.
Built on mutual respect and a shared vision for the future of African rap, North & South blended introspective storytelling, razor-sharp lyricism and socially conscious themes into a project that felt both deeply rooted in Nigerian culture and globally relevant.
At the heart of the EP was “Reckoning,” an emotionally charged record inspired by a true-life story. Stripping away the bravado often associated with rap, the track confronted the harsh realities of everyday life, reinforcing the project’s central message—that regardless of geography, the struggles faced across Nigeria share the same heartbeat.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Erigga said:
“The biggest surprise was realizing that struggle no get accent. We come from different parts of Nigeria, but the stories carry the same weight. The environment fit change, the slang fit change, but the hunger, the pressure, the responsibility and the dreams are the same. Eeskay brought a Northern perspective, I brought the South-South perspective, and somehow the music met in the middle. It reminded me that real music isn’t about geography; it’s about truth. That’s why the chemistry happened naturally.”
