The streets of Soweto came alive on Saturday, 7 March as Red Bull 1 Pal delivered an electrifying 3v3 street soccer spectacle at Jabulani Mall, celebrating the grit, flair, and unmistakable rhythm of Mzansi football culture.
After a day packed with high-intensity matches, fearless flair, and roaring support from the crowd, Bad Apes emerged victorious as the 2026 Red Bull 1 Pal champions, defeating Orlando Pirates 5s in the final to claim the title. Led by Chairman Sibusiso Radebe and coached by Smangaliso Maseko, Bad Apes brought composure, street smarts, and relentless energy to the pitch; embodying the essence of the 3v3 format where creativity, speed, and hustle rule the game.
Red Bull 1 Pal puts a unique spin on street soccer, where teams compete to stack four bricks; a nod to the iconic makeshift goalposts that have shaped South African street football culture for generations.
Speaking after the victory, Wandile “Dube” Nhlapo reflected on the team’s journey to the title:
“The plan was to win the game and do our best. The entertainment and the fans were a nice touch. Winning the R20 000 cash prize will help elevate the players and the club and allow us to continue playing soccer for the love of the game.”
Throughout the tournament, spectators were treated to nonstop action, creative footwork, and the unmistakable spirit of street football. The energy of the day was expertly carried by MCs Elly Majola and Slim Dope, who kept the crowd engaged and the atmosphere buzzing between matches. With music, community spirit, and passionate supporters filling Jabulani Mall, the event perfectly captured the soul of the game.
From brick goalposts to centre stage, the Red Bull 1 Pal Soweto edition proved once again that the heart of Mzansi football beats strongest in the streets.
