Johannesburg, get ready. On 7 March 2026, the energy shifts to Empty Space Gallery as award-winning B-Girl, DJ and cultural disruptor Courtnaé Paul presents IT TAKES TWO — a battle experience rooted in authenticity, community and pure skill.
In a space still largely dominated by men, Paul continues to take up space unapologetically, building platforms that centre the culture and create opportunities for the dance community. Known for her presence on battle floors and behind the decks, she now steps into the role of curator, bringing dancers together to compete, connect and push the scene forward.
This isn’t your typical dance or freestyle event. No solo battles. No pre-made teams. No shortcuts. The floor won’t be short on talent either. Expect some of SA’s best stepping into the cypher, including Bashi, Shanny J, Jor-Line, Nic Uncaged and 250 Machine, with Cape Town representatives Man Like B, SeeFlex, Mickey and James Blonde also answering the call.
The concept is simple but powerful: one open cypher where breakers and hip-hop freestylers step into the circle and make their case. No prelim brackets. No structured ladder. Just raw talent moving when they feel the moment. Participants can jump in as many times as they like, but make no mistake — the judges are watching. Every move, every exchange, every moment counts. Only the dancers who truly stand out earn their place in the next round.
