If there’s one independent artist I’ve grown deeply fond of in recent years, both for her hustle and her music, it’s Akuvi. Her determination, hunger, and unwavering drive are impossible to ignore. When I heard she’d be coming to South Africa last year, I was genuinely excited. Akuvi is an independent Afro-fusion artist with roots in Ghana and Norway, and she carries both worlds effortlessly in her sound.
She’s kicking off the year with a major statement: “Big Dream,” her latest release featuring Ghanaian Afropop, Afro-dancehall, and reggae heavyweight Stonebwoy from Ashaiman, Accra. It’s a powerful collaboration that feels both intentional and earned.
Throughout 2025, Akuvi dropped “Let Me Know,” “Lover/Fighter,” “Burn,” and “Blå Salme”—a run of releases that, in my opinion, all performed exceptionally well. “Blå Salme” notably samples Hilde Heltberg’s “Blå salme” (Erik Bye), a clear homage to Norwegian musical legends and a reflection of Akuvi’s dual heritage.
Last year saw Akuvi touring across Africa, with extended time spent in Ghana—an experience that ultimately birthed this collaboration. “Big Dream” now stands as the lead single from her 2026 project, and it finds her fully embracing her Ghanaian roots. This isn’t just a song; it’s a manifesto. A reminder to artists and dreamers alike that dreaming big is free—and that persistence always brings things to light.
Sonically, the track blends Afro-fusion with ragga and dancehall energy, carried by conviction and purpose.
Stream the song, follow her journey, and support the movement. This is the track your playlist has been waiting for.
