“Aweh” was already a fan favourite before the remix – what inspired you to revisit the song and add a new layer with Cassper Nyovest?
I have never done a remix before, so when the opportunity came up, I was excited to reimagine the song again with another perspective.
How did the collaboration with Cassper come about? Did you reach out to him, or was it more organic?
Cassper reached out to me when he heard the song and said he was keen to do the remix, naturally, I was excited about the idea and from that point onwards, it was very organic in the way the record came together.
What do you feel Cassper Nyovest brought to the track that elevated it in a new direction?
He brought the another perspective to the storyline of the song as well as a new approach to the music, which is great when looking at a song appealing to more people. I love the fact that Cassper approached the song with care and tact, he killed it.
Your music is known for being soulful and genre-blending. How did you ensure that Cassper’s verse fit seamlessly within your sound?
Honestly, that was Cassper – he really got into the world of the song and he delivered.
What was your reaction the first time you heard Cassper’s verse on “Aweh”?
I was in Paris with Vaughn and we were walking around Fashion Week listening to the song on his Twitch stream, then he sent it to me – it was so fun to hear it like that.
Has the success of “Aweh” (both the original and remix) influenced how you’re thinking about your upcoming projects?
Yeah, I would say so, once you find your first hit song, you develop an idea of how to approach songs and how to express yourself in ways that people receive the music best. I am excited about exploring my new album in studio with my team, we have been working on some really good music and I can’t wait to share that with the world in 2026.
If you could create another unexpected remix of “Aweh” with an international artist, who would it be and why?
Hmmm, that’s a good one – I would probably say Tyla, cause she would really get it and it would be great for South Africa to show the world once again, that we are the best.
