Spotify’s Mother of Music (MOM) kicked off on Thursday 5 September, giving attendees a taste of what they can look forward to over the next few days. The night took the form of a “MOM First Thursdays” themed launch across venues including Texas, Harringtons, For The Record, Club Paradise, The Electric, District, Surfa Rosa, The House of Machines, Shelf Life, One Park, Influhks, and an after party to conclude the night at Blondie. The music permeating from the illuminated DJ booths brightened the Cape Town community’s (from media to content creators) Thursday best fashions and mesmerising dance moves. There was no missing that there was a huge “First Thursdays” showdown in the Mother City judging by the immersive experiences across all the venues to the “fire” artist lineup.
Music and the DJ sets
Well-known groove anthems from Gqom bangers to Hip Hop tracks infused with dance music got attendees moving at Texas served by Raiko, Ghesxt Bunny and Mila Rose while Meek, Ben Probert Dizzy Rythm, Dee Koala & Quezy, and more showcased Cape Town’s well known and emerging sounds. Speaking at Texas, Spotify Sub Saharan Africa’s Jodie Tabisher said, “Last night was a testament to Spotify’s commitment to celebrating and highlighting the vibrant and exuberating culture in Cape Town. The artistry shined through, travelling from the stage to the dance floor.’’
Echoing Tabisher’s sentiment, Bea Theron, Experiential Marketing Manager Sub-Saharan Africa at Spotify said: “MOM: Mother of Music’s amplification extends far beyond what meets the eye. Weaved with the Mother’s City sonic fabric, the entire program including last night highlights both established and emerging creatives.”
The party continues…Through MOM: Mother of Music, which runs from 5 to 8 September in Cape Town, Spotify is supporting and celebrating arts and culture in the Mother City.
