Join DSTV Delicious Fest in celebrating 30 years of creative freedom with an epic tribute show hosted by Robot Boii. As a hip-hop fan and writer, day one immediately caught my attention.
Seeing those names on the lineup, and then learning that Janet Jackson would be headlining, was truly beautiful. No disrespect intended, as even senior citizens love Janet Jackson. Additionally, Thembi Seete will be performing on day 1, but let’s focus on the main purpose of our gathering. This event will honor our fallen heroes and idols, ensuring that their legacies carry on for future generations, which is a truly beautiful and respectful approach by DSTV Delicious Fest.
We all know AKA’s admiration for Khuli Chana, and the incredible music they created together. Whether through collaboration or featuring, these two knew how to create music that resonated with many South Africans. It brought a smile to my face seeing Khuli Chana as one of the artists set to celebrate AKA. Yanga Chief will also be honoring Supa Mega’s legacy. If you are familiar with their music or their friendship, you are undoubtedly a part of the hip-hop scene. I am personally looking forward to the set and the selection of songs to honor these legacies. Perhaps AKA’s band will join the tribute as well?
How many of you are familiar with “Amantombazane” by Riky Rick and OkMalumkoolkat? That’s the original version of the famous song. It started with the two of them, emphasizing their friendship and their involvement in Boyznbucks alongside Phiko, Mkay Frash, Stilo Magolide, Dokta Spizee, Bhubesii, uSanele, and Scoop Makhathini.
Furthermore, Reason, Maggz, Touchline, RedButton, and Siya Shezi will honor the legacy of Pro Kid. Pro Kid was known for rapping in a blend of South African township Soweto vernacular and English. He was the frontman of Saudi Western, which included Maggz, Morale, Tido, Zee, Sean Pages, and Omen. Pro had renowned battles with other South African MCs, including a memorable battle with 2rinity member Kaydo (2) on Y-FM. This will undoubtedly be a set many are eager to witness. Touchline, who is about to release his new album, has acknowledged how much Pro Kid inspired him. Maggz has also enjoyed a long tie with Pro Kid and has collaborated on songs. For many, Siya Shezi and RedButton were seen as the next Pro Kid. Ensure you get your tickets and attend this remarkable performance.
Cassper Nyovest and Khuli Chana will be paying tribute to HHP, who is famous for putting motswako on the world map and paving the way for artists like Cassper, Morafe, Molemi, Maxhoba, and others. Additionally, Boom Shaka will be paying tribute to Lebo Mathosa, and Focalistic will join Tumelo and Tokollo Tshabalala in honoring their father, Mandoza.
