As I was going through my social media looking for something to cheer me up, someone who knows I am a huge fan of women and girls who know how to rap mentioned me on a tweet, and that’s how I got introduced to AYON. Her lyrics were powerful, and her flow was unmatched, instantly grabbing my attention. I found myself nodding along and feeling an unexpected surge of excitement. It was clear from the first track that AYON was a force to be reckoned with. The GenZ generation would say “I was today year old” when I was introduced to AYON music.
I went to her page to see more of the content before checking her Spotify. Pretty solid if you ask me. With the music back up I strongly believe she’s on the right track. The quality of her music is more like that of someone who has been in the game for a while.
But didn’t want to misinterpret her so I jumped into her DM to shoot my shot, within a few minutes she replied (I was shocked because rappers hardly respond fast) below are the 5 questions I did with her. I wanted to get a deeper understanding of her journey and the inspiration behind her music, so I crafted questions that would reveal her creative process, influences, and future aspirations. I also aimed to uncover the challenges she faces as a female rapper in a predominantly male industry. Lastly, I was curious about her thoughts on the future ahead of her.

AYON: Currently I’m busy working on 2 Eps with two phenomenal women who are killing it in the industry as we speak and I’m finishing my own body of work that I’ve been working on since high school.

What has been the highlight of your career since you started rapping?
AYON: There’s been so many highlights to my care since I started this journey but the one that stood out the most for me would have been when I was nominated to be a part of the Puma PutMeOn in 2021 , cause that’s when I broke out of my shell and stepped into my purpose fully with confidence , which led to me finally releasing my first ever body of work.
