Stogie T raising the Bar Higher, Red Bull 64 Bars Season 3

Red Bull 64 Bars Season 3 is now in its second phase, with the next few weeks set to see the rollout of the second phase. Red Bull 64 Bars has introduced a new competition format for this season, allowing an amateur rapper the opportunity to showcase their 64 Bars.

Red Bull 64 Bars is an international initiative in its third year in South Africa, aiming to challenge both emerging and established rappers. The current season features 8 established rapper and producer duos from across the country, as well as one amateur winner. The first five episodes have already been released on the YFM YouTube channel.

The question is: will are they give us something even better than what Stogie T just gave us? You can’t give us a God MC, the top MC in Africa, so early in the season, unless you have a Proverb or Black Thought episode coming later.

The concept is simple but demands a good understanding of rhythm and beats. In rap, a single bar represents four counts over a beat, and with 64 bars, there’s enough space for approximately two minutes of lyrics. Red Bull 64 Bars challenges rappers to deliver 64 consecutive bars over a beat of their choice.

As demonstrated in the first five episodes, the series showcases South Africa’s top-tier artists and producers, highlighting the country’s remarkable and diverse rap culture.
