The NBA’s holiday tradition of playing basketball games on Christmas Day is back for the 76th time.
This year, there will be a full slate of five games, continuing the 16-year streak of this format. If you’re looking to watch NBA superstars play on Christmas, this year’s line-up of matchups will not disappoint.
Celtics vs. Lakers:
The Celtics and Lakers have the biggest rivalry in NBA history. This game promises to be one of the most exciting of the Christmas fixtures. Although the Celtics are having a good season, the Lakers can be inconsistent. Regardless of their respective forms, there’s always drama when these two teams meet. LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be looking to prove that their team is still the one to beat, while Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will be doing their best to secure a victory for Boston.
Warriors vs. Nuggets:
This game features the last two NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets. The two-time Kia MVP Steph Curry will lead his team, continuing their great form and run without their suspended teammate. The current champs, the Nuggets, are led by another two-time Kia MVP winner who also earned his first finals MVP. These two teams are a joy to watch and deserve to be part of our Christmas fixture.
Bucks vs. Knicks:
The New York Knicks are the team with the most Christmas Day appearances, having played in 56 matches. They will be looking to extend their Christmas Day winning streak to 25 games. However, it won’t be easy against a team like the Bucks, who have been amazing to watch and are contenders for the championship this season.
76ers vs. Heat:
The Miami Heat, defending Eastern Conference champions, will be taking on 76ers their former star player, Jimmy Butler. The reigning Kia MVP and two-time scoring champ, Joel Embiid, will be leading the 76ers. This is a chance to see two amazing players of this season go head-to-head on the court and give us the best basketball display.
Mavericks vs. Suns:
This game is a rematch of a previous meeting between the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns, in which four players scored over 30 points. Luka Doncic and Kyrie had 34 and 30 points respectively for Dallas, while Devin Booker and Kevin Durant both had 36 points for the Suns. It’s only fitting that this rematch takes place on Christmas Day.
Six of the nine players who have been named Kia MVP over the past 15 seasons will be playing on Christmas Day:
– LeBron James (2009, ’10, ’12, ’13) of the Lakers
– Kevin Durant (’14) of the Suns
– Stephen Curry (’15, ’16) of the Warriors
– Joel Embiid (’23) of the 76ers
– Giannis Antetokounmpo (’19, ’20) of the Bucks
– Nikola Jokic (’21, ’22) of the Nuggets
