After dropping off their ‘Nomalizo’ song, pop hitmaker, singer & songwriter, Aubrey Qwana and his DJ, producer & fellow Ladysmith native, Tha Maniac DJ have just shared a new body of work… The pair have dropped their debut EP called Amagalelo that is said to aim to introduce the world to their genre-blending mix of isicathamiya, maskandi, and hip hop— the traditional meets the futuristic. The EP comes with 5 tracks in total and the duo worked with the likes of Howard, Mnqobi Yazo, Alie Keys, Coolkiid, Anzo, Musiholiq and D.O.D to offer this unique experience.
The EP’s adventurous hybrid of maskandi and house congeals on “Umdanso” and “Amafilimu.” “Amagalelo” is a Zulu word for milestone, and on their lean offering, the duo earns the full length and breadth of that word. With its blend of diametrically opposed genres, Amagalelo builds and treads new ground in South Africa’s musical landscape.
