One of the world’s great cognac houses, Martell Cognac, has just partnered with global cultural and music initiative AFROPUNK for the first ever AFROPUNK Fest in South Africa, which will take place in Johannesburg at Constitution Hill on the 30-31 December 2017, and is expected to draw a crowd of over 30 000 people.
“We are very excited to partner with AFROPUNK because they are a platform that inspires and cultivates multiculturalism and diversity,” – Sibusiso Shangase (Head of Marketing for the Prestige Brands portfolio at Pernod Ricard South Africa, which represents Martell Cognac)
“Martell and AFROPUNK are interested in celebrating and inspiring people to go beyond the conventional, to be curious about themselves and the world, and in doing so, defy conventions.” – Sibusiso Shangase
AFROPUNK Fest will include a mix of home-grown and global talent from the worlds of music, art, culture, food and style. Headline acts include Solange Knowles, Anderson .Paak, Theo Parrish and Laura Mvula. Local acts include the likes of King Tha vs BLK JKS, Black Motion, Nakhane, The Brother Moves On, Spoek Mathambo, Okzharp and Manthe Ribane, Nonku Phiri, DJ Lag, TCIYF, Urban Village and Gods Sons & Daughter.
To complement the AFROPUNK Fest and set new rules and standards for festival experiences, Martell Cognac will offer various unique experiences designed to transform the conventional into the unconventional through music, food and drinks. Martell Cognac will have its own dedicated area at the AFROPUNK Fest featuring an elevated viewing deck and direct views of the main stage where guests can enjoy the newly launched Martell VS Single Distillery, and special cocktails such as the Martell Side Car and the AFROPUNK cocktail.
“AFROPUNK works with local partners, engages with local vendors and talks to members of the local community to ensure that the festival resonates wherever it goes,” – Jocelyn Cooper AFROPUNK co-founder
For over a decade, AFROPUNK, which was founded in Brooklyn in the US, has fearlessly redefined culture, answering the call for a space that insists on multiculturalism and diversity for people of all races, genders, colours, creeds and tastes. More than just a festival, AFROPUNK is a movement and a lifestyle platform that serves as a rallying point for those who favour the unconventional in music, fashion, art and film. AFROPUNK celebrates and inspires people in these fields who have the courage to take the unconventional path and redefine the expected.
