It was billed as one of the biggest events in this year’s entertainment calendar, and the I Heart Joburg festival, which took place this past weekend, certainly lived up to the hype. Holding it down for hip hop was B.o.B and T-Pain, and they both nailed it. Killed it, in fact.
T-Pain was the first international act to take to the stage, and for someone whose career has slowed down dramatically over the years, he did a pretty good job. He had the crowd on their feet and chanting his name when he took it to the hood with old collabos such as DJ Khaled’s I’m So Hood, Welcome to My Hood, and All I do is Win.
The I Heart Joburg festival came alive this past Saturday when B.o.B came on and ripped the stage apart. Speaking at a press conference last Friday, B.o.B said fans should “expect an unforgettable performance”, honoring his promise and delivering exactly that… and more.
The Atlanta rapper – who has belted out countless hits since he blew up in 2010 – drove the audience insane when he ditched the stage and started performing part of his set among the crowd in the Golden Circle, taking off his Timberland boots and hoodie and throwing them at the fans, those boots ended up on an auction on the Shoes Fella site! He took selfies with fans’ phones! B.o.B wowed the audience with his hugely successful single Airplanes and got everyone at the Ellis Park arena singing along to the catchy hook. He also captivated with his smash hits Nothin on You, Magic, the Nicki Minaj-assisted Out of My Mind, and We Still in This.
It was B.o.B’s first performance in SA, and he made sure the fans got their money’s worth. He got the ladies twerking hard when he performed the club banger Up Down with T-Pain.
It wasn’t all about hip hop though. The arena was also set alight by Jessie J, Jason Derulo, Panick! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy.
