We’re officially crowning the last two years: the ERA of KDOT. He’s simply unstoppable and it seems the good kid from the maad city has sealed his fate as one of the greatest artists of our time. GQ Magazine has just crowned the Compton native Man of the Year, a list which also includes Justin Timberlake, the late James Gandolfini, Matthew McConaughey and more.
In the interview with GQ he talks about seeing Tupac in a vision when he was 21 years old: “I was coming from a late studio session, sleeping on mom’s couch. I’m 26 now— it wasn’t that long ago. I remember being tired, tripping from the studio, lying down, and falling into a deep sleep and seeing a vision of Pac talking to me. Weirdest shit ever. I’m not huge on superstition and all that shit. That’s what made it so crazy. It can make you go nuts. Hearing somebody that you looked up to for years saying, ‘Don’t let the music die.’ Hearing it clear as day. Clear as day. Like he’s right there. Just a silhouette.”
Speaking on the recent controversy involving rapper Drizzy which began with his verse on the Big Sean track ‘Control’, Lamar says his relationship with the Canadian rapper is pretty cool, while he wouldn’t exactly call him a role model. When asked what Drizzy meant to him he said “No— peer. If anything. We all peers.”
From one peer to another, Kendrick is seemingly unphased by anyone around him. Will 2014 be another highly successful year for the rapper? We believe so and we’ll leave it up to you to watch this space.
