Four musicians from Durban unite to tour Swaziland. All-female jazz band, Heels Over Head, hip hop artists Abdus and Manelis, and DJ-duo The Nutscratchers are the four acts that will embark on a 3-day promotional tour of the neighbouring country from 16 to 19 August 2013.
The four Durbanites decided to team up for a tour that will see them expand their fan bases. The tour came to fruition with the support of the British Council and the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) Foundation.
“The panel of adjudicators hosted by SAMRO Foundation and British Council were very excited that we received such good applications. We have expanded the scope in the second round and hope to encourage more South African musicians to venture across our borders and share their music”, said Andre LeRoux, Executive General Manager of the SAMRO Foundation.
The initiator of the tour, Marlyn Ntsele of iSupport Music Business, had this to say: “We are very grateful that the British Council and SAMRO Foundation are supporting us in making this possible”.
iSupport Music Business partnered with Rooted Soulz and Headcount hip hop sessions in Swaziland to make this tour a success.
The aforementioned musicians have had fruitful careers; with Abdus having won the Best Lyricist Hype Award in 2009 and Heels Over Head are the winners of the 2010 Yamaha Young Talent Award, and in 2011 they received a SAMA nomination.
