Hosted by Sun City, the 2013 Battle of the Giants Freestyle Championship and All Styles Dancesport Festival starts today and ends on Sunday. This internationally recognised South African Dance Teachers Association Stage branch (SADTA stage branch) event has been in existence for 23 years and forms one of the qualifying events in the World Trial Circuit programme. The director of SADTA says: “I believe that The Battle of the Giants truly is the pinnacle of dance events in South Africa and it is certainly the best platform for local dancers. Hopefully, participants will take this experience to further their careers.”
Hip hop is a major feature at the event and this year 15 year old world champ, Hloni Santawane, returns to compete. He has been the World Hip Hop Champion for the last three years, and finally gets to compete in the adult category. “The challenge is going to be bigger, but I am feeling positive.” Reigning best hip hop adult dancer Eugene Baloyi (from dance crew Kryptonite) is also set to make a return this year.
The grand finals go down on Saturday at 7pm in the Superbowl. Fans who want to attend the different events; reserve your tickets at Computicket, plus you can book a return bus trip to Sun City.
