Yesterday when Kid Cudi went to Los Angeles radio station Power 106 to debut his new single ‘Girls’ (featuring Too Short) an even bigger story ended up emerging. Cudi tentatively announced that he has officially parted ways with his mentor, Kanye West’s record label G.O.O.D Music but assures fans that there is no bad blood between him and Yeezy (That’s what they always say right before subliminals start flying back and forth in songs and someone ends up
Cudi revealed that his decision to leave the label is something he had been thinking about for a while and he battled with trying to find a way to break it to Yeezy, even reaching out to Don C and Jay Z for advice. The news really does not come as a surprise considering that in Cudi hardly featured in the Cruel Summer and has also not appeared in performances or interviewed with the crew in the past year or so.
Cudi has been on precarious ground in his personal life as well as in his music endeavours, with a year-long custody battle against his baby momma and his first independent project WZRD bombing after being released commercially last year. He also parted ways with Emile and Plain Plat, who discovered and introduced Cudi to Kanye West before signing to G.O.O.D Music in 2009. We can only hope that he knows what he’s doing.
