With the Metro FM awards taking place this weekend in Durban and then the SAMAs shortly after, the ball is already rolling for award season in SA. Last week the South African Film and Television Award nominees were announced to much mixed reactions from the public. And by “mixed reactions” we mean they managed to piss off the entire comedic community with the exclusion of the Best Comedy, Best Director on a TV Comedy and Best Writing Team of a TV Comedy Series awards. You would think that the committee would know not to aggravate people whose jobs largely consist of making fun of people who aggravate them.
Anyway, on the bright side. Home of local group Jozi, Ghetto Ruff, have received two nominations for Jozi’s reality show Moving the City. The series, which aired last year on SABC 1, is a reality show starring the crew members Da Les and Ishmael, as well as comedian David Kibuka, documenting Jozi’s journey to finding a new sound for their now already released sophomore album of the same name. The show has been nominated for Best South African Reality TV Show at the SAFTAs as well as Best TV Series at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Ghetto Ruff has recently ventured in another television production, The Fly Chix, which airs on Vuzu (channel 116 on DSTV) every Wednesday at 19:30.
