I’m a south African rapper from Mpumalanga province. I grew up in two small towns Volksrust and Perdekop. And moved to Gauteng province in 2000 and stayed with my father in Midrand in a township called Mayibuye in commercial Ext 34. Completed my matric in 2004 at Boitumelong Senior Secondary School, and currently stay in Tembisa 1632.
My birth name is Mthokozisi Sidney Nkosi. My performing name (i.e. BLAKZUBA) goes back to my schooldays when I was rapping in my classroom for classmates. A high school friend Sifiso Shepherd Vilakazi who stays in Tembisa, Ecaleni section (khalambazo) nicknamed me Zuba because of my white complexion skin as zuba in Tembisa back in the days meant “white person”. Mthokozisi later on in 2003 added the BLAK to the name and that’s how it ended up being BLAKZUBA which means Mlung`omnyama (white black person).
I started writing my own songs in 2000 when I was in grade 8, I recited my first verse for a friend, and he liked it and from there I continued to write more and more until I mastered my flow and skill of Zulu vernacular rap with a tsotsitaal feel and a mixture of English.
