OfficialTBG’s new single No Fear is not a motivational record. It is something rarer than that. There is a particular kind of courage that does not look like courage from the outside. It does not announce itself. It just shows up in the work, quietly, and waits for someone to notice.
OfficialTBG noticed it in himself late. That is the whole point of No Fear.

Thabang Mdunjeni was born in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, a city that has never appeared on any map the South African music industry cares about. He moved around growing up primary school in Pretoria, high school split between Durban and back to Pretoria, then Johannesburg for university, where he studied Theatre and Performance at Wits. By the time he arrived in Joburg, he had already been writing music seriously for years. He started at 13, in Durban, making beats on classroom desks because a studio was not an option. He figured out at 15 that music could be a career. He has not stopped since.

The song is about imposter syndrome. Not the cleaned-up version that ends with a lesson. The version that lives alongside ambition for years without resolving.does not hide any of that. One of its standout lines lands without warning: “They think they fly but I’m dealing with pigeons. I got that eagle ambition.” It is not a diss. It is the sound of someone finally seeing themselves clearly after years of measuring the wrong things. The competition was never anyone else. It was always the version of himself he had not become yet.

No Fear is the second single off an upcoming EP titled Hopes and Prayers. The title is not figurative. OfficialTBG has spoken about the project being, in his own words, literally prayers conversations with God and with his mother, wishes placed into records and sent upward. The first single, Jordan Year, set the expectation. No Fear deepens it.

What makes this artist worth paying attention to is not just the music. It is the combination of things that shaped how he hears a song. A Theatre and Performance degree teaches you how a story lands, where tension lives in a narrative, why certain moments need silence around them.
