Skypstar Nozinator has officially dropped his latest EP, Kevin the Cool Kid—a project that delves deep into his roots, while showcasing a fresh perspective as an artist. But there’s more to this release than meets the eye: it’s a reflection of growth, overcoming self-doubt, and rediscovering the freedom of creativity.
Why Kevin the Cool Kid?
The title Kevin the Cool Kid refers to Skypstar Nozinator’s former rap persona. “I wanted new fans of my current name, Skypstar Nozinator, to get a glimpse of who I was with my new songs,” he shares. “These tracks feature old rap verses I wrote when I was still using the Kevin the Cool Kid name.” However, there’s no trace of Kevin the Cool Kid online. Struggling with depression and self-doubt, Skypstar once erased all traces of his old self from the internet.
But the release of this EP is a testament to his strength. “I’m stronger and wiser now. I want my fans to understand that they are cool just the way they are,” he says. The EP embodies a journey—Skypstar Nozinator having fun, navigating life, and even falling in love.
A Soulful Yet Fun Journey
Musically, Kevin the Cool Kid is a departure from Skypstar’s previous projects. “This EP is soulful yet fun,” he explains. It took four months to create, but the verses are over 10 years old—written during the time he still called himself Kevin the Cool Kid. The release was delayed several times, largely due to Skypstar’s fears about how it would be received.
“I was afraid of the feedback,” he admits. “But after a concert I performed four days before the final release, I realized fear was holding me back. So, I took a leap of faith.” He also battled technical glitches along the way, with music software crashing repeatedly, but nothing could stop his determination to get this EP out.
Collaboration and Production
The EP’s production was a collaborative effort with YouTube producers—where Skypstar’s career first began. “It pained me to see masterpieces made on the platform decay,” he reflects. He worked with producers like Melly X, Dexter Yu, Causmic, 23:59, and Active by Night, infusing their creative touch into each track.
As for the influences behind the EP, they range from the smooth, dreamy sounds of Don Toliver and Frank Ocean to the classic, nostalgic vibes of Jim Reeves. In fact, one of the standout tracks, “Daisy,” is a 1950s spinoff featuring a Jim Reeves sample, embodying a blend of timelessness and modern creativity.
Cover Art: Thinking Out of the Box
The EP’s cover art is also deeply symbolic. It features an animated anime boy staring at the sky, rockets launching behind him, while he wears a backpack. “It represents thinking outside the box and shooting for the stars. Your dreams are possible, and you can create your own world of fun. The backpack symbolizes enjoying the journey,” Skypstar says, perfectly summarizing the message behind Kevin the Cool Kid.
A New Chapter Begins
With this EP, Skypstar Nozinator is stepping into a new era. The blend of old verses, fresh production, and renewed confidence make Kevin the Cool Kid a journey through Skypstar’s past, present, and future. It’s a reminder that even in moments of doubt, fear, and setbacks, creativity and passion will prevail.
As Skypstar Nozinator says, “You are cool just the way you are.” And this EP is his proof.
