Your music often features an eclectic mix of sounds and unconventional instruments. Can you talk about your creative process and how you decide which elements to incorporate into your tracks? My music is a complete reflection of how I grew up. The sounds I incorporate are all from references I show my producer THX Beats and he brings the soundscape to life.
Facevsit, your work often blurs the lines between different genres. How do you navigate the balance between staying true to your unique sound and appealing to a wider audience? I believe that whatever is authentic to myself will be felt by others like me. As a Latino in Los Angeles the roots I have and the street influence of LA is something many can relate to even if not from the same Latin American country as my roots or the same city. Like Ice Cube says “Every hood’s the same”. At the end of the day good music is universal.
Many of your fans are curious about your influences. Are there specific artists or musical styles that have significantly shaped your approach to music and sound design? A lot of my musical influences come from the sounds I heard in my house growing up and the music my uncles and friends listened to from the hood around me. These influences include Hector Lavoe, Willie Colon, Oscar De Leon, La Sonora Dinamita and other Latin sounds, Julio Jaramillo an Ecuadorian Icon and of course rappers like Tupac, B Real, Big Pun, Nas, Immortal technique, Eminem, MC Magic and so many more rappers before me. I believe you can hear a mixture of all of this in my music and sound design.
You’ve been known to experiment with both digital and analog sounds in your music. What are some of the challenges and rewards of blending these two realms, and how do you achieve such a seamless integration? Honestly when it comes to the sound scape and the mixture of it, I owe it all to THX Beats. So, he deals with all the seamless integration. I get to have fun rapping my different styles on top of the soundscape he makes!
As an artist who pushes the boundaries of traditional music, what message or experience do you hope to convey to your listeners through your innovative soundscapes? I think the most important thing I want to convey to my listeners is to be true and authentic to yourself and create what you like. The rest will all follow.
