Newly signed DreamVille East Atlanata rapper, J.I.D (real name Destin Route) has been putting in the work on his career for some time now. Having first started out as part of a musical collective called Spillage Village, that was founded by EarthGang in 2010, with members Hollywood JB, JordxnBryant, and 6LACK, among others, in 2018 J.I.D has gotten to a level that many could not ignore further. As one of the headliners for the upcoming Flying Fish #FlavourOdyssey event taking place this Sunday, many SA fans seem to be excited to see what experience he will bring during his performance.

The 28-year old started creating a buzz for himself when de drop his first mixtape titled Route of Evil in 2012 that carried guest features from EarthGang and Stillz. During the early stages of his career he funded his musical journey via some jobs he obtained jobs at call centres and Domino’s Pizza where he was a delivery boy. The year 2013 came and that’s when J.I.D decided to drop his second mixtape called Para Tu (which was later re-released last year).

In the year 2015, J.I.D released his first extended play project called DiCaprio which was soon followed by a Spillage Village compilation album called Bears Like This Too Much that only featured J. Cole and Bas but has production from the late Mac Miller, Ducko Mcfli, Childish Major and J. Cole.

Last year (2017) was a huge one for J.I.D as it was the time the announcement of him signing to J. Cole’s Dreamville label was announced which was all made possible through the relationship J.I.D and Cole built during Bas and Cole’s friend/producer Cedric Brown’s tour in 2014. This new partnership birthed out J.I.D’s highly praised full length album called The Never Story that carries guest features from EarthGang, 6LACK, and Mereba. One might say that it was this album that truly shot up J.I.D’s career and since then he has placed himself at the forefront of hip hop through his abilities as an artists that came conquer many deliveries to message out a variety of topics plus feelings.

The same year as the singing announcement, J.I.D joined Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only Tour which then lead to his appearance on the BET Hip Hop Awards cypher. You cannot read through his life story and not be inspired by his consistency to keep on pushing himself. On the 26th of November, literally the day after his performance at #FlavourOdyssey, J.I.D will be dropping off his new DiCaprio 2 album which already has 2 singles off it out called ‘Working Out’ and ‘Off Deez’ (ft. J. Cole).
