Pretoria’s own Buzzi Lee is stepping into a new chapter, and she’s bringing that Spitori flavour with her. The rapper returns with “Abracadabra,” a new single produced by MashBeatz and featuring Mochen and Reason, while officially announcing her forthcoming EP, Bontle.
Following the success of “Bao Jela” featuring K.Keed, produced by MashBeatz, Buzzi Lee is keeping the momentum going with a record that puts her pen, confidence and lyrical ability front and centre.
Speaking on the inspiration behind “Abracadabra,” the Pretoria MC says the record is about recognising the magic within yourself, using wordplay, double entendres and layered lyricism to turn simple ideas into something meaningful.
“Abracadabra is about realizing that you are the magic. It’s about the magic of the pen and the magic within yourself,” she explains.
Her message comes through loud and clear in the line, “O se ka nnyatsa, ake Tshwane le oo,” a bold reminder not to underestimate her or compare her to anyone else. Buzzi Lee knows what she brings to the game, and she’s making sure the world knows it too.
The new single sets the tone for Bontle, her upcoming EP, which boasts an exciting lineup of collaborators, including Mochen, Reason, Loatinover Pounds, Thato Saul and more.
Known for her sharp Spitori lyricism, distinct style and ability to move across different sounds without losing her identity, Buzzi Lee has steadily carved out her space in South African hip-hop. She first caught wider attention with “Pheli Via Church,” a breakthrough record that introduced more listeners to her distinctive sound.
Her catalogue also includes appearances on some notable records. She featured on MashBeatz’s “Never Ride Remix,” which won Best Remix at the 2022 South African Hip Hop Awards. She later joined Woodblock DJ, Cassper Nyovest and Kwesta on the “Skuta Baba Remix,” recognised as Song of the Year at the 2024 Metro FM Music Awards.
With “Abracadabra” opening this next chapter, Buzzi Lee is putting her artistry, pen game and Pretoria roots on full display. As anticipation builds for Bontle, one thing is clear: she knows the magic she brings to the mic, and she’s only getting started.
