Following the introduction of his acclaimed WAVES project, South African DJ and producer Skindeepreturns with WAVES: Sunset Edition, the second chapter in an ongoing seasonal music series that explores the relationship between music, landscape and travel.
Rather than following trends, WAVES is built around intentional listening, music designed to accompany moments, environments and emotions. Sunset Edition captures the warmth, stillness and reflection of the day’s final light through three carefully crafted collaborations.
The opening track, “Gonubie Sunsets”, sees Skindeep reunite with Soulscene, joined by ArasoulSax. A Broken Beat record accompanied by rich jazz harmonies, guitar melodied, warm keyboard textures and melodic flute passages to create a composition that feels both organic and cinematic. Inspired by the coastal beauty of Gonubie in East London South Africa, the song evokes slow evenings, open landscapes and the calm that arrives just before nightfall.
The second offering, “The Rising Tide” brings together Skindeep and KVRVBO for an uplifting Melodic Deep House tune balancing emotional depth with dancefloor energy, offering a hopeful and uplifting close to the project.
“With the WAVES series, I’m building more than releases. Each edition captures a different feeling, season and environment. With Sunset Edition I wanted to capture moments of reflection and movement as day transitions into night” says Skindeep.
Originally launched as a music project, WAVES is steadily evolving into a broader creative platform spanning intentional listening experiences, vinyl culture, fashion and premium lifestyle events. Sunset Edition marks another step in that long-term vision, where music is experienced not only as entertainment but as part of a wider cultural and lifestyle experience.
