Fans of South African hip-hop have been calling for it on social media, and it’s finally here. After countless requests for Tswyza to upload the freestyle-conversation style sessions from The Tswyza Show onto streaming platforms, Volume One officially arrived last Friday.
The project features 13 tracks from some of the sharpest MCs who stepped onto the show — including Landrose, N’Veigh, ZuluMecca, PDot O, Kane Keed, Ta Longz, and more. Kane Keed’s appearance stands out as a personal favourite, though I still wish Tony Dangler’s iconic episode made the cut.
This album is packed with verses that will make you question whether we, as South Africans, truly appreciate our own hip-hop. It’s a powerful blend of conversations and cold flows, the kind of work we shouldn’t wait for Americans to validate through reviews when we can celebrate Tswyza right here at home.
This isn’t trendy, microwave rap. Its substance. It’s craftsmanship. It’s the kind of project that will still matter 10 years from now.
Listening through the album, it’s clear why Tswyza is being celebrated as one of the standout MCs of the year. Stream the project, revisit the visuals on YouTube, and make sure to show love on socials.
