As most of you will now know, I am tapping into the underground and I recently took a listen to rati$upremacy’s latest effort titled, PHOENIX. Before we begin talking about the music, I would like to take a moment to applaud rati$upremacy for her efforts in the presentation of her music. Even with her prior releases, there has always been a visual aesthetic to accompany a release – a mark of a multifaceted artist.
PHOENIX opens with the song ‘1in3 hoes’. The song sees rati$upremacy usher us in with her trademark cadence. What stood out from the onset was her ability to string together flows that perfectly complement the nature of the production. Now, when listening to the song, it’s easy to get caught up in how she is saying things rather than what she is saying because her raps ooze cool. ‘nü carvela’ sees rati$upremacy rap atop a production that changes gears into a different realm. The song features frequent collaborator Q2K, who handled chorus duties. PHOENIX closes off with the song ‘aura farming chickens’. The song sees her enter a more melodic flow in comparison to the previous two songs. Her performance on the song point to her song making ability, a skill she has displayed on a song like ‘carousel’. Overall, PHOENIX is a welcomed addition to the growing catalogue of rati$upremacy. Listen to PHOENIX below.
