Over two days and across two dynamic stages, BAI: HEATSKRS CON returns on August 1st and 2nd, 2025, reaffirming its mission to spotlight the trailblazing creativity emerging from youth in film, new media, and music. With an action-packed lineup of immersive experiences, live performances, and bold conversations, this year’s edition is all about empowering young voices to create, connect, and be heard.
A crowd-favorite making its return is the Curators Playlist Battle—a celebration of sharp musical taste and rising local talent. In this high-energy sound clash, three respected music curators face off live, each presenting a curated playlist of standout emerging tracks. The audience votes to crown the winner.

Last year’s battle featured influential voices like Eatzz, a cultural critic and music writer; Illy the Host, an acclaimed content producer and magazine contributor; and Lesiba Mankga, Editor-in-Chief of the iconic Hype Magazine, who walked away as champion. This year, Lesiba returns to defend his title against award-winning actor and culture leader Thabo Rametsi, and groundbreaking producer Mohau Mamafha—setting the stage for another electrifying night of sound, community, and culture.
Pushing the boundaries of what a youth convention can offer, BAI: HEATSKRS CON also introduces a rare experience for aspiring filmmakers: a Scoring Masterclass led by award-winning composer Bongani Seoli Mashaba. Known for scoring Inkabi, The Queenstown Kings, Four Walls and a Roof, and Sebata: The Beast, Mashaba will unpack how music is crafted and integrated into the emotional architecture of film. Expect a deep dive into the creative and technical decisions that shape cinematic sound.

Adding to the creative fire is SAMA-nominated rapper Tyson Sybateli, who will present a Creative Talk on his world-building process for an upcoming music project. Renowned for his intentional storytelling and layered sonic landscapes, Tyson offers a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into how he builds mood, meaning, and message within his art.
The BAI Spotlights will also feature rapper Jay Jody and Zinzi Sibisi, creative director of Legacy Defined, each sharing insights into their creative journeys and contributions to South African culture.
At its heart, BAI: HEATSKRS CON is a powerful celebration of youth-led innovation, storytelling, and cultural entrepreneurship. This year, the convention invites young creators to take up space, share their work, and experience the energy of culture being shaped in real time.
