The countdown is on for one of the most unforgettable musical experiences of the year. Road to Bassline Fest, in proud partnership with SAMPRA, presents “History of House”—a powerful genre-fusing live show featuring Grammy-nominated producer MÖRDA and the world-renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, happening July 18 at The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg. Opening the night is rising star Brandon Aura. Tickets are available now via Webtickets.
This once-in-a-lifetime collaboration promises an electrifying fusion of Afro house, Amapiano, gospel, and timeless house classics—uniting two of South Africa’s most respected musical forces.
“We can’t wait to showcase our take on these evergreen house classics, especially doing this on stage with MÖRDA for the first time,” says Shimmy Jiyane of the Soweto Gospel Choir.
“I want this music to bring peace and joy. I want people to dance, to feel free,” says MÖRDA.
The Soweto Gospel Choir, fresh from global tours, will perform material from their new History of House album—an ambitious reimagining of house anthems like “Silence” and “Ride Like the Wind”, translated into South African languages and infused with spiritual power. Produced by Groove Terminator and Latroit, this album connects gospel tradition with contemporary electronic sounds.
Alongside them, MÖRDA—formerly of Black Motion—brings his high-octane, spiritually rooted sonic universe to the stage. Fans can expect hits from the Asante Trilogy, including his new single “Glory” featuring Nomfundo Moh and Nontokozo Mkhize.
Opening the night is Brandon Aura, a fresh talent with a soulful folk-pop sound. Following a standout performance at Fête de la Musique, Brandon brings introspective storytelling, emotional depth, and a rich African identity to the stage.
“As a rising voice in African music, his presence is powerful and intimate—perfect for this historic night,” says Brad Holmes, founder of Bassline Live.
This event is proudly supported by SAMPRA, reaffirming their commitment to empowering artists, protecting their rights, and celebrating the best of South African music.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Bassline Fest to honour and elevate the incredible talent that defines our music industry,” says SAMPRA.
BET joins as a media partner, building on a decade-long partnership with Bassline to spotlight local talent on global platforms.
“Our mission is to amplify African voices and push boundaries—this collaboration does just that,” says BET South Africa.
And as a Mandela Day special edition, History of House is presented in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
“The call to action is simple: identify those in need and do what you can to uplift them,” the Foundation reminds us.
