Pointer Sisters’ “Hot Together” Experiences Massive Streaming Surge Following GTA VI Trailer Feature

Spotify streams surged last week as fans raced to listen to tracks from the latest trailer for the hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.

Featuring heavily across the game footage was “Hot Together”, the 1986 classic from The Pointer Sisters. In the two hours following the trailer dropping, the track saw a stratospheric 182,000% increase in global streams on Spotify, in comparison with the same period one week prior.

Following the second trailer drop for the hugely anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, Spotify streams of the featured track – “Hot Together”, the 1986 classic from The Pointer Sisters – have surged.

In the first two hours alone following the trailer’s debut, the track saw a stratospheric 182,000% increase in global streams on Spotify, in comparison with the same period one week prior.

The Pointer Sisters achieved huge success in the 1970s and 1980s, with massive hits such as “I’m So Excited” and “Jump” each enjoying hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify.

The huge impact follows the release of the record-breaking first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, which featured Tom Petty’s iconic “Love Is a Long Road”. That track enjoyed an immediate 37,000% increase in global streams on Spotify.

“Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else. Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it’s great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way” said Sulinna Ong, Spotify’s Global Head of Editorial.

In addition, songs also heard in the trailer – including the Haitian konpa track Child Support” by Zenglen and the Tammy Wynette classic Talkin’ To Myself Again” – have seen a combined surge of over 7,000%.

Fans of the Grand Theft Auto series can also enjoy the official Grand Theft Auto Radio playlist on Spotify, available here. The playlist features hidden gems and classics from your favorite songs and artists from across every station in the Grand Theft Auto series based on your Spotify listening preferences.
