NAKHANE RETURNS TO MUSIC WITH BOLD REINTERPRETATION OF SEAL/ADAMSKI CLASSIC “KILLER”

Multimedia artist Nakhane announces their interpretation of the Seal/Adamski dance classic “Killer,” set for release on March 28, 2025. The announcement follows an extraordinary period that has firmly established Nakhane as one of contemporary art’s most versatile voices.

The release comes as Nakhane’s directorial debut “B(L)IND THE SACRIFICE” continues its acclaimed festival journey, with premieres at Locarno Film Festival, Stockholm Film Festival, and most recently the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The film has earned critical praise for its bold exploration of religious tension and ancestral beliefs.

“‘Killer’ has always represented a particular moment of transformation for me,” says Nakhane. “It’s a song about rebirth and consequence – themes that have followed me through my life as both musician, filmmaker and writer. This version isn’t just a cover; it’s a conversation between past and present. It’s about honouring our ancestors, both by blood and practice.”

This release marks Nakhane’s return to recording following their acclaimed 2023 album “Bastard Jargon,” which featured collaborations with Nile Rodgers, Perfume Genius, Shabaka Hutchings and Moonchild Sanelly. In November 2024, they took to the stage at Theatre Royal Drury Lane as Siddhartha in Rachel Fuller and Pete Townsend’s “The Seeker,” a musical adaptation of Hermann Hesse’s novel featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The release of “Killer” will be accompanied by a music video that draws visual parallels to Nakhane’s film work, further bridging their multiple artistic practices.“I first started playing “Killer ’25” when I was touring You Will Not Die, so it’s been a long time coming. Initially it was for me to have at least one song that I did not compose on the set, a song that was familiar to the audience. As we performed it over the years audience members would tell me how much they enjoyed my rendition and that I should record and release it. I’m slow, so as much as the germ of the idea came to me almost 6 years ago it wasn’t until 2024 that I began to earnestly work on a recorded version.”
