You know that we love to bring the hottest interviews to our loyal supporters and our efforts stretch across the world. We had the pleasure of interviewing one the hottest acts in Jordan Adentunji who you are probably familiar with by now. The rising star sat down with us to discuss “Khelani” hitting over 35 million streams, upcoming music and more.
Firstly, congrats on the unbelievable accomplishment in your career. Your song, “Kehlani”, hit 35 million streams and we wanted to know how you feel about reaching that milestone.
It’s crazy and it’s really really exciting for me. It’s always been something that I have wanted to achieve and I’m glad it’s happening now – now is the time.
How would you describe the impact your song has had in the game?
The impact of the song has been crazy. It creating moments for everybody and I love seeing people have a sense of joy to something that I have created. Which I think is amazing.
You expressed in a previous interview that Kehlani would be on the remix. How would you describe the moment you guys made the song and have the two of you established a musical connection?
She is amazing. Her process is so different. She wrote two different verses for the song. She wrote the first verse and we sat with it for a while before writing the second verse. She felt like the second verse felt better. I told her that she can do whatever she wants because both verses sounded amazing. The second was my personal favourite and that is the verse we went with on the song. I’m glad it was able to come out and we could shoot a music video for it and just make it a moment for everybody. It’s like a full circle for me because everyone was following it on the internet organically. It’s so exciting that it came to life. Its like a manifestation sort of thing.
You have a very unique and distinct sound. How did you explore your signature sound and how did it come about?
I have been working on the sound for a while, especially with the way that I play with my vocal tones. I want it to create a different world each time. I’ve always expressed how I want my music to be like era’s. I want it to be a constant story. I’m into video games so I see things as different levels and storyboards. I feel like this is a different era for me. I have really focused on the creative for that world. Thats how I see music
How do you feel about people describing your sound as ‘sexy drill’? I love it because it has sexy drill elements with a lot of R&B elements too. As the music develops, people will hear that. Shoutout to the boys making sexy drill in New York.
Im sure that you have different pockets to explore. We were curious to know if you have any new music coming soon?
For sure, I have got a lot of stuff coming that I’m excited about. There is a bunch of stuff I’m waiting to confirm so I can’t say too much yet but I’ve got some exciting stuff in the works.
This moment signifies a milestone with you signing to 300 and Warner Music Group. What is next after solidifying this partnership?
Imma drop a lot of songs and people are going to really understand what type of artist I am. I think that’s the benefit of the creative world that I am building. I think people are going to see that world and understand who I am as a person.
Do you have plans to tour anytime soon?
I wanna get my next few songs out then I’ll go on tour but right now I’m just focused on dropping new music.
Because you have African roots, would you consider touring in Africa?
Absolutely, I love Africa. Africa is one of the best places in the world. Exploring countries like South Africa and Nigeria has alway s been one of my dreams.
