Renowned SA luxury designer Thebe Magugu has once again proven his stellar reputation of forging the most memorable collaborations with the reputable brands. From Christian Dior, Valentino, Singita and Adidas, the award-winning designer has added yet another partnered effort with iconic outerwear label Canada Goose.
Known for producing high quality and durable outerwear tailored for extreme weather conditions, Canada Goose has enlisted three emerging designers to help kick off its new series, the Hood Trim Collective. Thebe Magugu was tasked reimagining Canada Goose’s iconic pieces for limited edition capsules alongside emerging luxury labels Collina Strada and Mira Mikati. The three designers set off on a challenge of lending their distinct visions to the label’s Shelburne Parka, Mystique Parka, and Chilliwack Bomber.
The result ? A magnificent Heirloom Mystique Parka from Magugu inspired by his BoSotho heritage. In a statement the designer shares, “I wanted to design it as an homage to my Sotho heritage and upbringing from times spent in Mafeteng (Lesotho), which has influenced so much of my work as a fashion designer.” he pens.
Magugu’s most distinct attribute within his works is his unequivocal and consistent references of his personal identity, family history and heritage – which he unabashedly imprints in most of his collections. His latest collaboration is no different to his signature approach.
The Heirloom Mystique Parka exemplifies Canada Goose’s mastery in creating durable outerwear, married with Thebe Magugu’s inimitable flare. Its design showcases a hood trim inspired by a black down-filled scarf, delivering optimal warmth and comfort in challenging conditions. The parka also boasts a lavish Merino wool Heirloom Shawl Hood Trim, adding an extra level of insulation and defence against the elements. To enhance practicality, the parka comes with interior backpack straps for effortless carrying in warmer temperatures.
